Have you ever wondered how the greatest people in history became that way? Are you interested in learning this so that you too can achieve your full potential and become a source of inspiration to everyone around you? If so, then you are well on your way to living a better life for yourself and tapping into your own greatness. This is because you’ve taken a proactive step in the right direction when it comes to connecting with your true greatness. Good for you. However, it’s also important that you get the correct information about how to achieve your true greatness so that you can follow the right path to get there…
What is Greatness?
Finding your true greatness begins with defining greatness. If you examine the lives of people who have been a source of inspiration to all those around them, you’ll find that there is one thing they all have in common. All of them lived their life with great passion and devotion towards their own purpose and mission in life. It was this passion, not the mission, which made these people great. As Mother Theresa once said: “Few of us can do great things, but we can all do them with great love.” This great love which she spoke of is the very thing which makes any purpose or calling great. Without it, achieving greatness is impossible.
The Obstacle to Greatness
So if passion is the thing that allows someone to connect with their true source of greatness, what can you do today to tap into yours? It begins with being honest about what you were truly born to do with your life. Too many people choose the direction in their career or in their personal life based on what they believe is going to help them achieve the greatest results. However, if what they choose does not inspire them with a sense of internal passion and drive, they will seldom rise above mediocrity. Not only that, choosing a career or a calling which is out of alignment with your true passions will infect your life with an unhappiness which will devastate the other areas of your life.
For example, many people who are not happy with that they are doing for a living spend their time complaining to other people about how much they hate it. This has a negative impact on their ability to build empowering relationships with the people that they love. In addition, a lot of their extra money gets spent trying to make up for the lack of excitement and significance in their lives. Often, this kind of overspending completely nullifies the extra income that they earn by choosing a more “practical” career path.
This unhappiness and the compounding financial worry which comes from overspending begins to cause stress in their lives which has a negative impact on their physical health. The stress spills over into their recreational life and keeps them from being able to relax and to enjoy their life while they are not working. It impacts the way that they talk to themselves, their self-esteem and their sense of passion and fulfillment. This is not the path to greatness; it’s the path to mediocrity.
Overcoming this begins with being honest with yourself about what you were meant to do with your life and getting yourself started on the path to making it your chief aim in life.
Finding Your True Passion
Once you are honest with yourself about where you have not been following your passion, it will be much easier for you to discover the truth. Most of the time, people don’t know what they want to do with their lives because they are wasting too much of their time and energy trying to be someone who they are not. However, once you let go of this, there are three things which you can do to begin to discover your true passion today:
- Pretend that you were out of time
Sit down and write out everything that you would do in the next six months if you only had six more months to live and to leave a legacy. Chances are that the majority of them are things that you could start doing right now. Pick a few of these out and get to work on them right away, no matter what.
- Pretend that Money Was No Object
Sit down and write out the job or career that you would choose if you had all of the money that you needed to survive. Most of us never follow our dreams and discover our greatness because we are distracted by the need to survive. However, following your passion can actually turn out to be the most profitable route to take in your life.
This is because you’ll be inspired to work harder and with more passion and enthusiasm than you would if you were doing something you really didn’t want to do.
- Find a Need and Fill it
Sit down and write out the three things which you believe that people need more than anything. Be honest and don’t just say love because it seems like the noblest thing to say. Listen to your heart. Pay attention to what you truly believe that people are missing in their lives. If you hit the nail on the head, you may even feel a twinge of anger that people are not getting it. This is your passion coming alive and the beginning of discovering your greatness.
Most important, when you discover the next step that you need to take, get to work. Great purposes always define themselves and evolve as action is taken. Get started today, whether you are ready or not.
