Wicking beds are extremely water efficient and time efficient compared to other forms of garden beds. They require very little watering, except 5 – 10 minutes filling up the water reservoir once a week in summer.

They can be any size from a broccoli box on a balcony to a 6 metre raised bed in a sunny place in your garden. The critical component is that the water reservoir is levelled.

As the wicking bed is self-contained the growing bed can be adapted for any plant requirement, alkaline, acid or neutral, depending on what you want to plant.

What we mean by happiness or subjective wellbeing is people’s evaluations of their life; how they feel about it and how they appraise it. … One way is to just sit back and think about life and wonder is my life as it should be – that is life satisfaction.

En route to death, and perhaps in contemplation of it, many will experience existential angst, cosmic loneliness and a search for meaning. Challenges and difficulties will be encountered by everyone. As former prime minister Julia Gillard remarked to her supporters after being deposed, shit happens.

Linking us all in the face of certain death and inevitable misfortune is the desire, and arguably the need, to be happy. Happiness is a notion we all grasp, but one that can be hard to define. It is a state that can be elusive – and then devilishly difficult to maintain. It is hugely important to the quality of our brief existence, and for many is central to the very purpose and meaning of life. One person will see any setbacks as a reason to stop trying while another person, with the exact same circumstances, will see the opportunity of a problem as a means to learn and improve their situation. Your perspective makes all the difference

In all aspects of your life how you perceive any situation determines how you will react to it.

Any 2 people will see the same situation in different ways. This is the reason police investigating a crime will talk to as many people as possible so that they can get as wide a cross section as possible in order to be able to ascertain exactly what happened more easily.

One person will see any setbacks as a reason to stop trying while another person, with the exact same circumstances, will see the opportunity of a problem as a means to learn and improve their situation. Your perspective makes all the difference.

For many people when they hear something they automatically think of other things they have done in the past and often assume the results will be the same.

Difficult situations are opportunities to be our best selves, hone our skills and rise to the occasion.

Sometimes we may feel like there is just too much we need to do. Feeling overwhelmed may make it seem like the universe is picking on us, but the opposite is true: we are only given what we can handle. The best place to start is to take a deep breath. As you do, remind yourself that the universe works in perfect order and therefore you can get everything done that needs to get done. As you exhale, release all the details that you have no control over. The universe with it‘s infinite organizing power will orchestrate the right outcome. Anytime stress begins to creep up, remember to breathe through it with these thoughts.
